Way back in the early spring, when flowers were just starting to bloom and the rains were firmly set in, my little sister came to visit me and we spent a weekend out in St. Louis exploring the sights, listening to some of the best music, and eating all the delicious food you just can't find out here in the middle of nowhere. My favorite part of the trip was visiting the Missouri Botanical Gardens. If you ever get a chance to go, take it! It is 1000% worth it. While we were there, it was overcast and rainy but somehow it made the place even more magical. I felt like I was in a secret garden because the near constant drizzle kept most of the people home that day. My favorite part was the greenhouse where they keep all the cacti and succulents. Just like every other girl on instagram, I seem to be obsessed with them. Though my love for them grows out of the fact that they are some of the few plants I can keep alive for longer than a week, #blackthumb.
Hiking with Lois
One rainy day I took our little Lois out for some one on one time hiking on post. Really it was just an excuse for me to bust out my camera and take some cute shots of her and the changing nature. She loved it because I took her leash off and just let her run (don't worry, she is great at sticking close when Blizz isn't around). Anyway, we really had fun wandering around in the mud and she let me take some adorable shots of her.
And of course I had to include a couple of her derping out. This is what the majority of her photos turn out like!
Kaitlyn & Scott Maternity Photos
Thought all I was going to post is personal work and puppies? Don't worry, I have a few sessions from here in Missouri I have been dying to share! First up: Kaitlyn and Scott's maternity session! These two are absolutely beautiful inside and out! We met because our husbands go to school together and we are neighbors. I was so honored when Kaitlyn reached out to me to photograph their maternity session. Baby Grant is so blessed to have these two as parents, you would be hard pressed to find more joy-filled people to raise a child. But enough chat, here are some of my favorite images from their session!
Big Piney River Adventures Vol. 1
One of our favorite things to do here on post in Missouri is to take the pups out to the river access near Miller Cave. They love running around and splashing in the river, we love throwing the ball and watching them play. Of course they come back super muddy every single time, but it is always worth it. The joy is evident on their faces, I swear they smile at us! These photos were from back in June when I first returned from Europe (those photos are coming soon I promise), and the lighting was just perfect.
Introducing Mr. Strange
Apparently it has been so long since I've blogged that I haven't even introduced the newest member of our family on here. And it has been nearly a year since we adopted him! We picked him up last Veteran's Day after watching Doctor Strange (hence his name) when we fell in love with him at the pet store. He is the sweetest most adorable three legged cat there ever was. Catch that? Yeah, three legs (yet another reason for his name)! But he doesn't let it stop him from living life to the fullest and attacking Lois every chance he gets! It does prevent him from jumping on the counters and table tops though which is very nice. No knocked over vases in our house! His favorite toys are hair ties and paint brushes- he has stolen them all, I don't even know why we bother buying expensive cat towers and toys. And he chatters every time he sees a light reflection on the wall or ceiling. All jokes aside he is the perfect finish to our little family, our little zoo.
And we're On The Move Again
You gotta love the Army life. Insane hours, the constant threat of deployment, and the oh so fun PCS season. Guess what we just found out? We are headed to Fort Bliss in November! Actually we are super excited about this move. As much as we love it here in Missouri, we are ready for a change in scenery. And this move wasn't a huge surprise, Justin has already finished ECCC and his master's degree is wrapping up next month so we knew these orders were coming, we just didn't know where we would be sent next. Not going to lie, I wasn't super thrilled with the news we are headed to Texas when we first found out but since then we have researched the place and it seems absolutely perfect for us! Beautiful desert, national parks nearby, and all the Mexican food our little hearts could possibly desire! I am very excited to pack up and head to our new home!
Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House
Hey everyone! Happy September! I know it has been forever and a day since I last blogged. While photography has still played an important role in my life, it has taken a back burner since moving to Missouri last year. I have not offered sessions here since I didn't know how long we would be stationed here and frankly, I needed the break. But that doesn't mean I don't have tons of fun stuff to share. I'm talking puppies, adventures, EUROPE, and so much more. So get ready for blog posts to be coming your way weekly from now on!
First up: The Sophia M. Sachs Butterfly House. This conservatory was absolutely stunning. I loved walking through here last weekend. Justin and I took a mini trip out to St. Louis for the weekend and this was probably my favorite adventure. Even though it was hot and humid, I could have spent all day in there, and I almost did! Here are a few of my favorite images from the trip!
I loved the positioning of the butterfly above, the symmetry of it was just beautiful!
And the blue butterfly below was probably my favorite- just look at that patterning!
That's all for now, folks! I will blog again soon- probably some of my puppers on an adventure!
Wizard World St. Louis
This past weekend was Wizard World here in St. Louis and it was awesome. Justin and I went on Saturday and walked around the convention drinking all the root beer we could want. It was a blast seeing all the costumes and looking at all the wares. We each spent a good chunk of change and got everything from pins to t-shirts to books to art. I even got a Jurassic Park license plate for my Jeep! We laughed more than we have in a long time and truly had a blast. It was awesome meeting the authors and artists and learning more about how they create their crafts. We did not do any photo ops or get any autographs but we don't regret saving the money and avoiding the lines. We can't wait for the next convention where we will hopefully be bold enough to wear costumes instead of just t-shirts. Here are just a few of the photos we took. If you are on the fence about going to a convention, just do it. It is fun and relaxed and you won't regret it!
The Vaughn Family
This family had me in stitches their entire session! My cheeks hurt from laughing and smiling. I think it is pretty obvious why :)
